Diwali Aotea Square, Auckland
Having arrived back from the UK on Saturday (yesterday), today I joined Vicki, Olga, Sahlah and Vicki's girls for the big Diwali event in Aotea Square, Queen St, Auckland.
I joined Vicki for this event two years ago and absolutely loved it, so when she called for dancers to join her again, I happily put my hand up.
She choreographed a bollywood/bellydance fusion piece to Nari Narien, a nice, lively piece of music.
First off we danced on the main street, resurrecting the one we did two years ago, with a veil - Vicki, Olga, Sahlah and myself. This was a lovely dance and really enjoyed performing it again.
Then the big event - our dance on the main stage - well received by the huge crowd that had already gathered. There's always a really warm , welcoming crowd at Diwali and a good few hundred cram into the Square there.
After our dance, we wandered round the stalls, having some delicious food from one of the stalls and chai tea. People were coming up to us and saying how much they loved our performance and taking photos with us - just like stars! :-) It was really nice.
