I just had such a fun filled time this past weekend at the MEDANZ Belly Dance Festival in Wellington. Left Auckland on Thursday with Angela Mott and we arrived back on Monday night. Such a lot of laughs, dance, food and good company. It was lovely to catch up with everyone in Wellington - the weather turned on the good charm for us and it was a really enjoyable time. The first meet and greet with margaritas at Tequila Joes was a nice way to kick start the weekend and was a good warm up prior to the first workshop - ha ha hic! I loved meeting Leila Haddad and Alice Knox and was lucky to be able to attend some of their workshops. The show on Saturday in which they performed was wonderful. It was so lovely to watch them dance - I loved Leila's Folkloric number - such a beautiful colourful costume and her Raqs Sharqi finished the show in perfect style. And what can I say about the local talent? Amazing! From start to finish, the show was thoroughly enjoyable and captivating with a capital C! A night out on the town afterwards at a roof bar somewhere (LOL) - sangria and tapas - very nice. The Hafla was a great night of dance with the scholarship winner being announced - 4 were nominated which was great to see. Then we had a wonderful ballet number - 4 swans - just stunning and such finesse... ROFL... Then we danced the night away - we had a great DJ! On Monday I had a stall at the SOUK and was able to watch the open stage performances all day which was great. I also performed two pieces to a wonderful enthusiastic audience who were a pleasure to dance for.
