SBTS 13-16 March 2020

Who knew what 2020 was going to bring us. I couldn't go to Randa's course or the nightclubbing week in February this year as I was really ill with tonsilitus, a really bad cough and flu like symptoms since January. Also, our boiler had broken so needed replacing - not cheap! SBTS was held on the 13-16 March at Battle and we all went not fully knowing this could be the last of dance events for some time. We had a fabulous weekend of workshops with Chloe, Amanda Rose, Yalla Julie, Lea, Sarah-Louise and Racheal. A great variety show on Saturday night and a weekend filled with dance. I love going to SBTS - it's such a relaxing fun weekend and Chloe organises it so well.

Fast forward a week and the UK is lockdown due to a Coronavirus - Covid 19 - sweeping the globe.

Dance events (in fact ALL events) are cancelled for the upcoming months and to date (September 2020 as I write this), all the ones I had booked even into October have been cancelled. It's been a hard year for dancers, teachers, bands, costumiers, stores, organisers; all who make their living from this dance world, but the dance will prevail and teachers and performers have taken to zoom, youtube etc to teach online classes, hold online haflas (solo from their living rooms) and so on. They have had to become inventive in a year of a surreal pandemic that has changed life as we know it. So many sadly have been lost to this virus and so many have lost their livelihoods.

We are all hoping that 2021 will see things improve so we can all get back to doing what we love - dancing, learning, performing, going to festivals, traveling, visiting souks, seeing dancers and bands perform at restaurants while we enjoy a lovely night out. Smiling again in each others' company. In the meantime, take care and stay safe. Big hugs xx
